Vicarious Trauma For Interpreters

Veronica Maldonado has been an Interpreter and Translator for Riverside University Health System (formerly Riverside County Regional Medical Center) since 2010. She participates in the training of bilingual staff, promulgating federal and countrywide regulations and policies for healthcare interpreting. She has been designated as the Palliative Care Interpreter by the language and Cultural Service Department and remains very active in promoting cultural competency in the healthcare setting and language access for palliative care patients. She teaches alongside other palliative care members in hospitals for the preparation and implementation of hospice care. She had been featured in a 2016 article in The Press-Enterprise; “How interpreters help soothe final days” (link provided below). Mrs. Maldonado received her interpreter training from Riverside Community College (RCC) and has continued her training and education through conferences, seminars, webinars, and personal study. She continues to advocate for language access and cultural competency for palliative care patients.
